Joel Rothman
PRESIDENT
Joel founded NutriCompliance in 2009 to provide regulatory consulting services to nutritional supplement companies. He has worked with many small to medium-sized marketers, manufacturers and sellers of dietary supplements.
Joel helps nutraceutical companies understand certified Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) regulations for dietary supplements as published by the Food & Drug Administration. The cGMP regulations affect nutritional supplement manufacturers that sell their products in the United States. Joel focuses much of his work on assisting medium-sized companies with less than 500 employees that had until June 2009 to meet cGMP regulations and the smaller nutraceutical companies that have until June 2010 to comply with the regulations.
CONSULTING SERVICES
Joel provides regulatory consulting services on nutritional supplements in areas such as labeling and advertising claims, content claims, structure/function claims, health claims and qualified health claims and third-party literature.
PUBLICATIONS
Joel founded and publishes the Nutritional and Dietary Supplement Law Blog at http://www.nutrisuplaw.com. The blog provides information and resources on laws and regulations that apply to the manufacture and sale of supplements, functional foods, and cosmetics. Joel has also written for Nutritional Outlook Magazine, which in 2009 published his article [LINK], “Playing It Safe: Marketers can protect themselves against product adulteration and recalls.” Joel is also on the board of the Consultants Association for the Natural Products Industry.
LAW PRACTICE
Joel is also a partner the West Palm Beach office of Arnstein & Lehr. A substantial portion of Mr. Rothman’s practice is devoted to representing dietary supplement companies in FDA and FTC regulatory matters, transactions and litigation.
Mr. Rothman also represents individual and corporate clients in intellectual property infringement litigation involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, trade libel and related commercial matters. And Joel files applications for trademark and copyright registrations, represents companies in licensing and acquisitions, and advises clients on information security and privacy matters.
Professional Activities and Achievements
Joel is a member of the Executive Council of the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar, and he is currently vice-chair of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Section. He is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the International Trademark Association.
Joel is AV-Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, and was named to Best Lawyers in America for FDA Law and Information Technology Law. He is also rated 10.0 Superb by Avvo.
Education and Qualifications
Joel received his law degree from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University (J.D., with honors, 1991) and undergraduate degree from State University of New York at Albany (B.A., magna cum laude, 1988).
Joel is admitted to practice law in Florida, New York and New Jersey.
